Bibliocafe on Woodlands Road

Bibliocafe is an independent coffee house and second-hand bookshop in the Woodlands area of Glasgow’s West end. They sell a variety of drinks, cakes and sandwiches and included in this are a few tasty gluten free options. They have a good selection of wheat and gluten free cakes, biscuits and chocolate bars to enjoy with your beverage. They have cosy indoor tables and also a small outdoor seating area, nice for people watching or on those rare but fantastic occasions when Glasgow experiences a sunny day.

I was concerned the first time I visited this cafe that some of the gluten free cakes they had on display were unwrapped and next to cakes which were wheat but not gluten free. I felt more comfortable choosing one of the individually wrapped pear and chocolate biscuits or chocolate bars to avoid any chance of contamination. On a returning visit however, I decided to explain these concerns to one of the cafe’s friendly staff members. I explained that as I was Coeliac I couldn’t risk anything that wasn’t 100% gluten free and I was happy I had because she said she could get me a slice of whichever cake I fancied, still in it’s wrapping and contamination free!

One of the cafe’s quirky staff said that she was looking to find good tasting gluten free bread so that they could start selling sandwiches to gluten free customers. She said they wanted the bread to be fresh rather than store bought so they are still currently in the process of trying to make this idea a reality.
