Who are you and where are you?
Kenna from Louisville, KY
Tell me about your relationship with gluten..
I am a pastry chef that specializes in gluten free (but not flavor free!) foods. 🙂
Why should gluten free travellers visit your town?
On Frankfort Avenue, our gluten free bakery,  Annie May’s Sweet Cafe, serves up fresh and delicious desserts. In addition, our local food trucks have a lot of gluten free options. We especially love Grind who sell our gf buns with their homemade burgers and vegan veggie burgers. We’re working hard on being a gluten free foodie town!
Tell me something fun about your town..
We are home to some of the best and coolest microbreweries. Our friends at Apocalypse brewery even make a gluten free beer made from sorghum (a southern staple) and honey.
Where is your favourite place to eat out in your town and why?
Annie May’s, of course! And not because it’s shameless promotion, but because it’s truly where gluten-intolerance is a non issue. I mean, fried Mac and cheese balls? Beer cupcakes with apricot jam, Brie frosting, and candied bacon….just, delicious. 🙂
Other restaurants in the area offering gluten free options include –
Grind food truck serves their gourmet burgers on a gluten free bun when requested. Grass fed and gorgeously dressed bugers; we love ’em! Also! Just down the road is a local brewery that makes a delicious sorghum beer. Apocalype Brewery makes the best gluten free beer I’ve ever had. So clean and crisp without the bitter aftertaste that most gluten free brews have.
North End Cafe has a pretty good gluten free menu although they don’t have a dedicated kitchen. Hometown Pizza does have a gluten free pizza but again, cross contamination in the kitchen is an issue for us. We are turbo sensitive, and in addition, have corn allergies, etc.  It’s tough out there!
Seviche is a Latin restaurant that has consistently served safe food, and a local honky tonk called The Silver Spoon does a good job, too!
