Who are you and where are you?
Tina from Adelaide, Australia. I’m Australian but my parents are Italian immigrants. I’ve only been Coeliac for two years and I’m just starting to explore the world of Coeliac travel. I keep a travel blog in which I sometimes incorporate Coeliac themes.
Tell me about your relationship with gluten..
My relationship with gluten can be summed up in my aunt’s words. An 80 year old Southern Italian women looked me straight in the eye and said ‘No pizza. No bread. No pasta. What the f…k are you going to eat for the rest of your life?’. She thought my life was over. Little did she know…. 🙂 I do spend an disproportionate amount of time looking for the holy grail, aka good gf bread. I think I found it too….
Why should gluten free travellers visit your town?
Adelaide, in fact Australia, is so Coeliac friendly. Even in the smallest town, backstreet café, seaside hamlet, people seem to be super aware of Coeliac disease and what it means to eat gluten free without compromising variety, taste, flavour and health.
Tell me something fun about your town..
Adelaide has pockets of magic. Pop-up bars, food trucks, art and culture, creativity and individuality. It’s multicultural and vibrant and we know how to throw a festival!
Where is your favourite place to eat out in your town and why?
Mesa Lunga is one of my favourite restaurants. They make a suitable and delightful fuss over you without being cloying or patronising. I can eat so many exquisite things on the menu, including the rich fat pork belly.
There are so many gluten-free friendly restaurants here in Adelaide –
For Indian food, British India; for Chinese, Concubine; for pizza, Melt; for Italian, Parlamento; and for pizza, the amazing and sublime Fancy Burger.  All of these places can be found in the city centre.
Do you live in Adelaide or have you travelled there? Where is your favourite place to eat gluten free?

Sep 4th, 2013I love Parade Thai at Norwood. They have a GF menu and the owners and staff seem to know all about Gluten. It is 5 mins by bus from city centre http://theparadethai.com/
Just GF Cafe 3/462 Port Road – Hindmarsh is amazing too. They bake a huge selection of baked goods on the premises… 100% GF bakery..
