Gluten Free Nottingham, UK

Hartley’s Coffee & Sandwich bar

Who are you and where are you?
Dawn Hartley from Nottingham, UK

Tell me about your relationship with gluten..
I have crohns disease and cannot have gluten or dairy in my diet at all. Gluten makes me very ill and have been like this for over 2 years.

Why should gluten free travellers visit your town?
Nottingham is great for gluten free food, so many restaurants are now catering for us! We have a few local pubs that are independently owned and managed that now cater for gluten free. We also have a few daytime cafes/coffee shops that also cater for lunches and snacks including cakes & biscuits!

Tell me something fun about your town..
Nottingham has the oldest pub in the UK and the oldest football club!

Where is your favourite place to eat out in your town and why?
Daytime for lunch and snacks including CAKE – it has to be Hartleys Coffee & Sandwich Bar and then for night time meal my favourite has to be Carluccios as I love their homemade corn pasta!

Other places to eat in Nottingham are:

The Griffins Head, Papplewick – the whole menu can be done gluten free, even the fish and chips which are fab!
Luigis Restaurant  – Their gluten free pasta is great!
Prezzo for gluten free pizza
Carluccios for gluten free pasta and rissoto
Las Iguanas have a gluten free menu with lots of gluten free Latin American food
Wok & Go – A Chinese takeaway with gluten free options.
The Plains Fish Bar offers a gluten free menu on Monday & Tuesdays.

Do you live in Nottingham or have you travelled there? Where is your favourite place to eat gluten free?

Pizza Express can do any of the classic pizzas on the menu on a gluten free base – hooray!

Hartley’s is a wonderful place full of delicious gluten free sandwich options and the staff are really lovely!

  • Thanks Laura for putting this info together. Ive book marked it as it will come in very handy – it can be quite a struggle finding GF sometimes.

  • FYI Sheffield FC is the oldest English Football Club as recognised by FIFA and the FA!! Despite that, Hartley’s serves up some amazing food and the breakfasts are to die for 🙂

  • I run the Bluebird Café in Sherwood, about 2 miles from Nottingham City Centre. The Bluebird is a veggie/vegan café and restaurant and most of the meals are available gluten free. We also have a wide range of drinks available including GF beers.

  • I run Dottie’s Tearoom in Arnold, Nottingham. It is Nottingham’s first 100% gluten Free Tearoom. Afternoon tea is our specialty & we sell breads from Wheatfree Bakery & cakes from Bakesjust4U. Coeliac’s can come & eat with us with no fear of possible cross contamination.
