Last Saturday after a fun trip to Alcatraz and before a drive to Sonoma for wine tasting, the search was on for something that would keep me satisfied through sip after sip of vino. On one of my various searches for gluten free eateries in the Bay Area, I had come across Hot Spud in the Fisherman’s Wharf area of the city. Huge jacket potatoes filled with interesting toppings, most of which were gluten free. I had to try this place and this was the perfect day to check it out!
I was not at all disappointed. Wow! This place is awesome (and the friendly staff are super nice too!) Almost every ingredient is gluten free and each topping is in it’s own tub with it’s own spoon so there is no fear of cross contamination. Â There are six ‘signature spuds’ to choose from but you can mix and match toppings depending on what you like to make your perfect spud. I chose the Shrimp Spud which came with grilled shrimp, chipotle tartar sauce, corn, green onions and black olives. I’m not a fan of olives so I substituted them for tomatoes. This may be the greatest potato I’ve ever had!
As well as potatoes they do big salads, drinks (including alcohol) and yummy desserts which are also gluten free. John and I shared a sweet potato chocolate brownie later on whilst we were sipping on red wine. Perfect.
