Lady Gaga Goes Gluten Free

Lady Gaga

Another gluten free celebrity..

We woke up this morning to news that yet another celebrity has decided to go gluten free..

A role model who has been diagnosed with a serious affliction to gluten, who is taking it seriously and is going to help spread awareness? Probably not.

It’s Lady Gaga. She has ‘switched’ to a gluten free diet. Of course she has. :-/

From one of the articles I read this morning..

A source said: ‘Gaga has decided to go on a major body blitz and cut out all and gluten and wheat from her diet, which is very hard to do.’It sure is hard. They have something right!

‘She has given her people strict instruction to advise staff at venues and restaurants about her new diet because she is taking it very seriously.’ Sounds like she is trying to prevent cross contamination. Is she celiac or gluten intolerant?

‘Her aim is to drop 10lb in a month.’ Awesome (in a very sarcastic tone) but not surprising. She is doing this to lose weight. Sad face.

‘The 26-year-old singer is thought to be rationing her carbohydrate intake to just two portions a week, and living off a diet mainly consisting of fish, chicken and vegetables.’ She could do this exact same thing – lessening carb intake and eating mostly fish, chicken and veggies – whilst still on a ‘normal’ gluten containing diet. Why associate gluten free with this?

Dear annoying celebrities, gluten free is not a fad diet. Please don’t treat it this way.

I was going to end this with some witty Lady Gaga lyrics but then I realised I don’t know any…

What are your thoughts? Does this annoy you or are you bored with all of this gluten free celeb stuff?

  • I agree. I think it is annoying. She could have said that she was just going low-carb. Why make things even more difficult for people who really needs to be gluten free. I have been suffering for a month now because a company didn’t take gluten cross contamination seriously and labeled their product gluten free (they can’t label it that way in the UK where it is made).

  • I hate the trendiness of the diet. I am so anti-trendy that I want to eat gluten in reaction……not really.

  • Sad that some people consider it a fad…but hopefully the good that will come out of it is awareness of the actual problem. It’s like the old adage says, even bad press is good press. Hopefully, people will have the curiosity to learn more about the actual need for gluten free diets since they heard about it through celebrity exposure. One can hope anyway!

  • Thanks for your comments, folks!

It really is just low-carb diets these celebs are going on anyway, is it not? I think some people may seriously think gluten free means no carbs. Miley? Gaga? Whoever is next? Eat some gluten free muffins, cookies, cakes, pizza, pasta, bread and donuts and tell me how your weight loss it going! πŸ™‚

I definitely like the suggestion that people would look into what it means to be gluten free and why some of us have to be after it getting more exposure from daft celebs. This could go well or badly though I suppose. I do like the articles which mention the latest gluten free celeb but then go on to discuss celiac disease. It’s numpy journalists (great Scottish word for you there!) who don’t even do their research before saying something daft and who hinder rather than help our fight for recognition in this gluten filled world. Rant over πŸ™‚

  • I’m not sure how I feel about this…

Totally kidding. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. Celiac is the only disease on the planet where you need to defend yourself from the naysayers. And that is all because of the ridiculous celebutards that embrace it to lose weight.

Yes..I’m a little bitter about it.

  • Celebbutards…I love it πŸ™‚

It really is insane that not only can we never eat even the tinniest bit of gluten ever again but we also have to defend ourselves and prove to the rest of the world that it’s a serious condition. Nuts!

  • Disgusted!

Oh this piss me off big time!

It is this people’s faults when waiters or restaurant staff think that I am just a fussy eater and do not take me and my illness seriously… and of course we know exactly how it ends: feeling sick that day and beyond and maybe have the holiday ruined. Stop with this unnecessary gluten free diets! we have an ILLNESS, we don’t want to lose weight!

I’m a coeliac and this grates a little but if it helps to raise awareness of gluten free happy with that.

Here’s a witting end you could have used. Q How do you wake Lady Gaga? A – Poker face!

  • Isn’t it a good thing that she’s raising awareness for the condition? Some people don’t have a clue what celiac even means. What if she has developed an aversion to wheat and just doesn’t want to talk about having the shits?!

  • Nice one, Ian πŸ™‚

  • Loubie. I do hope that more people could learn about celiac from celebs like her. I’m hoping that many of the articles discussing her new diet (and there are a lot of them) also mention that some people NEED to be gluten free as a result of celiac disease. This way it could help to raise awareness.

Gaga herself isn’t raising awareness for celiac though. She’s raising awareness that being gluten free is a great idea for losing weight.

  • She’s also raising awareness of Gaga. The publicity bandwagon rolls on and they don’t care a **** about ceoliacs.

  • Sadly true, John. As long as it helps her to promote whatever she’s doing, who cares..

  • I see all information is from “a source”. I can find you a source to say just about anything to spin any way you want it. What does Lady Gaga herself actually say?
And, actually, your comments sound more slanted than anything even the source says.

  • Dan, I’m not sure who the source is. As you can see I linked to the article that I got this information from. Presumably the source is someone in her publicity team..

The comments within the post are my opinions. The comments below the post are those of my readers. I’m not sure what you mean by ‘slanted’ but I’ve put them in bold so that it’s clear that they are simply my opinions. I was simply sharing new information, my thoughts on the topic and encouraging my readers to offer their opinions. πŸ™‚

  • Dan…that is quite the bizarre statement. The source is obviously her publicity team since it was repeated verbatim on hundreds of websites. How is Laura slanting things by commenting on a sound byte that Gaga’s team released??

  • The only good that came come of this is an increase in the amount of gluten free options for those of us who must eat gluten-free. I am not sure that outweighs the harm that someone above mentioned: Wait people who think you are just asking for gluten free food because you think it will be good for you or because you are following a fad.

  • Using Celiac to loose weight????????? What is wrong with her PR rep???????? She did not research Celiac or she would have realized the problems Celiacs have to get gluten free food, medical attention, acceptance…….the number of affected Celiacs who were told “your crazy-it is all in your mind”. The surgery, the meds taken for being crazy, the doctors taken to court for treating Celiacs, months suffering with 6 doctors saying nothing wrong…… A carb free diet is what she wanted, not to put a “Celiac diet” to loose weight on the front page. She has assistances to verify gluten free products and she have the funds to experiment.

  • Yup. She’s basically on a carb-free or low-carb diet which happens to be somewhat gluten free. She has no idea how difficult being and staying completely gluten free really is.
