Last week I ate at Pacific Catch next to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. They have a couple of locations in the city. One here, on 9th at Lincoln, and another in the Marina district.
Do Celiacs Get The Cold?
Celiacs! Have you gotten the cold/flu much, or at all, since being diagnosed?
I asked this question on Twitter and Facebook yesterday. These are some of the responses I got from fellow celiacs. Only two people told me that they often get sick. Most told me that they have rarely gotten sick, if at all, since being diagnosed as celiac and starting a strict gluten free diet.
Gluten Free Tofu Black Bean Chilli
I like to eat meat sometimes but recently I’ve been experimenting with vegetarian dishes. Tofu is an ingredient I’ve been using a lot. It works well as a meat substitute in a variety of dishes, it’s high in protein and calcium and since it doesn’t have a strong flavour itself it absorbs flavour and spices really well to make very tasty, flavoursome meals. Of course most importantly of all, it’s gluten free! Chilli beef is one of my all time favourite dishes of all time so I decided to give a tofu version a try. I really enjoyed this tofu black bean chilli. It was a lighter meal and it had a lot of flavour to it.
Coca Cola Gluten Free
After the positive feedback I received from the Pepsi Gluten Free post earlier in the month I decided it would make sense to write a Coca Cola one too. Today I emailed Coca Cola for a list of their gluten free products.
Gluten Free Dublin, Ireland
I’ve had quite a few emails asking about what it’s like travelling gluten free in Ireland. As Ireland and Scotland are so close I am lucky to have had the opportunity to explore this beautiful country but this was before I found out I was celiac. I plan to return at some point in the near future but for now I thought I’d speak to my friend and fellow gluten free traveller, Sile Farrell, about what it’s like living as a celiac in Ireland.
Sile lives in Dublin and was diagnosed as celiac ten years ago. She is a very sensitive celiac and she gets very sick if she is contaminated by the smallest amount of gluten. For this reason Sile eats out only at restaurants which she knows and trusts to be safe for celiacs. These are the celiac friendly places she told me about.
Green & Blacks Gluten Free
Today I found myself wondering whether Green and Blacks chocolate is gluten free. It’s a brand I sort of forget about for a while then remember when I see it in a store or a friend offers me a chunk. This time I decided to do some research so that I know whether or not I can eat it next time the opportunity arises. I was always a big fan of their butterscotch chocolate bar in pre celiac days. And their ice cream, especially the one with caramel and hazelnuts! But is it safe for me to eat now? Is Green and Blacks Chocolate Gluten Free?
Pepsi Gluten Free
With all the time and effort we give to ensuring what we eat is gluten free and safe for us, we need to make sure that what we are drinking is also safe. I drink mostly water, tea or fruit juice and try not to drink too much fizzy juice, soda, pop, whatever you like to call it, but sometimes I can’t resist a can of Mountain Dew. Back when I was first diagnosed as celiac I contacted Pepsi to ensure that original and diet dew were gluten free but today I decided it would be a good idea to email them for further and more up to date information. They emailed me back within 2 hours.
